With a total of Thirteen showrooms all over Essex, Toomey regularly maintains over 1,000 cars on its inventory and new models arrive on a daily basis. Today, of course, Toomey's is very well-known in the county and is certainly one its largest dealerships. But it wasn't always that way. In fact, the origins of the Toomey Motor Group were very humble indeed. The man behind it all was a young entrepreneur by the name of Joseph Toomey and his initial business interest was not cars, but motorcycles. He established Laindon Accumulators in Laindon, Essex in 1929 which grew steadily over the years to become the Laindon Holdings Group of Companies with a much wider involvement in the automobile business. In the early 1930's, the benefits of modern technology were becoming available to the man in the street at an affordable price. Motorised transport, which for so long had been a privilege only the affluent of the day could afford, was being made available to the masses. Inspired by these changes, Joseph Toomey saw a new business opportunity - the battery, or as it was better known the 'accumulator', which was to be absolutely vital if either a wireless or automobile were ever going to be of any use to anyone. So, in 1932, Mr Toomey established The National Accumulator Service Station which by its name alone told customers exactly what was available.
